Vasse Felix - 2008Cabernet Sauvignon, Australian Wine from WA

Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from selected vineyards in Margaret River were used to make the 2008 Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense, yet elegantly structured. It comes from the best vineyards in the northern part of Margaret River, centered in the Wilyabrup sub-region. The combination of barrel fermentation and extended skin maceration followed by 18 month French and American Oak maturation has further refined this wine. A blend with 8% Malbec. Screwcap.
The nose gets intensly varietal and savoury with a strong base of blackcurrant fruit and layers of lifted pot pourri, violets, distinct dried sage and bay leaf, topped with spicy, vanillin French oak. The palete will enjoy with a bright, tight, mineral acidity lifts the flavours with a core of sinewy Cabernet tannins that completes with red fruits, cool menthol, violets and chocolate oak followed by a long, chalky, dry finish. A big wine.
