The Hunter Valley is a wine region in New South Wales along the Hunter River, which is ending in Newcastle running into the Pacific Ocean. The wineregion is about 160 km (2 hours) north of Sydney with a length of approximate 180 km towards north. The largest city in the region is Newcastle, followed by Maitland, Port Stephens, Singleton, Cessnock and Musswellbrook. Altogether there are about 700,000 residents. Economically most important to the wine industry, next to the Barossa Valley, the Hunter is one of the major regions, well known for its Semillon. Moreover, the possibility to visit more than 100 wine cellars, is making the Hunter Valley a great tourist attraction, which annually attracts 2.5 million people, mainly weekend visitors from nearby Sydney. |
